On Thursday 26 October, starting 6 p.m., at Centrul de Interes, Fundaţia Culturală Intact opens the "Towards a Shared Vision" exhibition. Organised in partnership with the Cluj-Napoca City Hall and Local Council, Iulius Mall and Banca Transilvania, the project brings together twenty-three Romanian artists of the young generation, active in the country’s major university centers - Iași, Bucharest, Timișoara and Cluj-Napoca -, but also on prestigious international stages. Their selection was made, by an advisory committee, based on a larger number of proposed portfolios.
An important event of the year for Romanian art, "Towards a Shared Vision" represents a continuation of the support programme dedicated to young Romanian artists, initiated and run by Fundaţia Culturală Intact since its establishment in 2000. In the same context, alongside a series of artistic residencies offered over the years, are large-scale international exhibitions to which the Foundation has joined as a partner.
The Jeune Création Européenne Biennale, an initiative of the Montrouge Town Hall in Paris, is one such example. Fundaţia Culturală Intact and the city of Cluj-Napoca were invited to take part in two editions of this project by including selected groups of young Romanian artists in an ambitious European exhibition circuit. The difficult years of the Covid-19 pandemic were decisive for the Montrouge Town Hall’s decision to put an end to this European project, but its success in Romania motivates the continuation of this initiative in a new format, this time on a national scale.
With the launch of the project at Centrul de Interes, an international jury appointed by Fundaţia Culturală Intact will select three winners, with the award ceremony to be set at a later date. Financial prizes and diplomas will be awarded with the support of partners Iulius Mall and Banca Transilvania.
The curator of this edition is artist and university lecturer Mihai Zgondoiu, and the producer of the project is artist and university professor Florin Ștefan, director of Fundaţia Culturală Intact and Centrul de Interes Federation.

Post-Industrial Regeneration in the Work of Marcel Smets

From September 15th to October 5th, 2023, Centrul de Interes and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca present the first comprehensive survey of post-industrial and infrastructural regeneration work, directed and co-directed by Belgian urbanist Marcel Smets (b. 1947).
Encompassing three decades of recent urbanistic practice, the exhibit highlights the complex environments and co-creative processes at work in the renewal of the contemporary city. Rather than a métarécit of the prodigious individual career that connects the showcased projects, the exhibit occasions the opportunity of starring many individuals, organisations, and communities, grouped into professional or social constellations and power systems. These constellations are generated by two kinds of ‘gravity:’ on the one hand, the axiological weight of the city as privileged research object in increasingly more disciplinary areas and, on the other hand, the undeniable attraction force exerted on contemporary subjectivity by ruined industrial and infrastructural places. The selected projects display a threefold diversity: (a) chronological - from the early ‘90s to the present; (b) typological - railway stations (Leuven, Antwerp), port districts (Genoa), urban river fronts (Rouen, Oporto), road infrastructure (Genoa, Antwerp), and derelict industrial areas (Île de Nantes) or public facilities (Ghent, Hasselt); (c) geographical – projects from Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal.
The project befits the evolution of Centrul de Interes, a dedicated place for contemporary art, located in an emerging post-industrial area, containing interdisciplinarity in its DNA of a ‘laboratory space.’ The concept of the project confronts the two notions associated in its title: art and urban design. While the city is recognised as quintessential object of contemporary art, urban design is simultaneously reclaimed as a most relevant artistic genre. The spatial discourse of the exhibit configures a chronological itinerary through the featured projects and urban design collectives, as well as a site – non-site dialectic (in Smithsonian sense), through the continuity relationship between interior and exterior space. This results in a thematised visual dialogue between the re-presented places of the projects, and the actuality of the former factory hosting them, and of the ex-industrial sites surrounding the exhibit venue, which are - panopticon-like – purposefully framed as integral components of the visit.
Marcel Smets’ projects curate the post-industrial city beyond purely aesthetic and formal concerns, constantly seeking the improvement of the found urban condition. This exhibit thus ultimately addresses the desire of present-day communities to envision inhabitable futures for the ubiquitous already urbanised yet neglected territories.

Marcel SMETS has studied architecture, engineering (University of Ghent, 1970) and urban design (Technical University Delft, 1974). He obtained a PhD from the University of Leuven (1976), where he was appointed to the chair of Urbanism in 1978. He has been active in theory and history with monographies on Huib Hoste, Charles Buls, the Belgian garden cities, and the reconstruction of Belgium after 1914. He further published in Archis, Topos, Lotus, Quaderns, Casabella. In 2010/ 2016 he co-authored with K. Shannon the referential Landscape of Contemporary Infrastructure.
Smets was founding member of the ILAUD (Urbino,1978), visiting professor at the University of Thessaloniki (1987), and Design Critic at the Harvard University GSD (2002, 2003, 2004). He was member of the scientific committee for EUROPAN (1995-2004); and acted as CSO chair for the Institut pour la Ville en Mouvement (2007-2015).
Throughout his career as urban designer, Smets has been engaged in conversion projects of abandoned industrial areas and outworn infrastructures. From 1989 to 2001, within the design-based research group Projectteam Stadsontwerp which he founded. From 2002, as consultant in various office combinations. From 2015 onward, as advisor and partner in ORG Urbanism.
In June 2005, Smets was appointed Chief Architect for the Flemish Region, a five-year mandate in which he managed numerous public design commissions. In 2010, he co-authored with K. Shannon the influential book on The Landscape of Contemporary Infrastructure. In 2009, Smets was elected to the Royal Academy of Belgium, Section of the Arts. In 2014, he was granted the Prize of the MO-RO Foundation and he received the Matexi Legacy Award in 2016. He recently brought out Foundations of Urban Design (ACTAR/ Public Space 2022).

Între 15 septembrie și 5 octombrie 2023, Centrul de Interes și Universitatea Tehnică din Cluj-Napoca prezintă prima retrospectivă a proiectelor de regenerare post-industrială și infrastructurală, dirijate și co-dirijate de urbanistul belgian Marcel Smets (n. 1947).
Revizitând trei decenii de practică urbanistică recentă, expoziția pune în valoare complexitatea contextelor și a proceselor co-creative implicate în renovarea orașului contemporan. Evitând reprezentarea, în forma unui métarécit personal, a remarcabilei cariere individuale care constituie legătura dintre proiectele reunite aici, expoziția aduce la rampă o serie de personalități, organizații și comunități, grupate în constelații profesionale, sociale și sisteme ale puterii. Aceste constelații sunt generate de două tipuri de „gravitație:” pe de o parte, ponderea axiologică a orașului, ca obiect privilegiat de cercetare în tot mai numeroase domenii disciplinare și, pe de altă parte, incontestabila forță de atracție exercitată asupra subiectivității contemporane de siturile industriale și infrastructurale ruinate. Proiectele selectate prezintă o triplă diversitate: (a) cronologică – din anii ‘90 până în prezent; (b) tipologică - gări feroviare (Leuven, Anvers), cartiere portuare (Genova), fronturi urbane fluviale (Rouen, Porto), infrastructuri rutiere (Genova, Anvers), și zone industriale (Île de Nantes) sau dotări publice abandonate (Ghent, Hasselt); (c) geografică – proiecte din Belgia, Franța, Italia, Portugalia.
Proiectul se integrează evoluției Centrului de Interes, un loc dedicat artei contemporane, situat într-o zonă post-industrială emergentă, care conține interdisciplinaritatea în ADN-ul său de „spațiu de laborator.” Conceptul proiectului confruntă cele două noțiuni asociate în titlul său: Arta și proiectul urban. Recunoscând orașul ca obiect predilect al artei contemporane, proiectul urban este revendicat ca unul dintre cele mai actuale genuri artistice. Discursul spațial al expoziției configurează un itinerar cronologic prin proiectele prezentate și echipele care le-au făcut posibile, precum și o dialectică sit – non-sit (în sens smithsonian), prin relația de continuitate dintre spațiul interior și exterior. Rezultă un dialog vizual tematizat între locurile re-prezentate ale proiectelor și actualitatea fostei fabrici care le găzduiește, dar și a fostelor situri industriale din jurul Centrului de Interes, către care se deschid – ca într-un panoptic – perspective controlate, integrale vizitei.
Proiectele lui Marcel Smets curatoriază orașul post-industrial dincolo de preocupări pur estetice și formale, căutând permanent îmbunătățirea condiției urbane găsite. Această expoziție răspunde în fond dorinței comunităților contemporane de a imagina un viitor locuibil pentru teritoriile deja urbanizate dar neglijate.

Initially referring to a forced exile, for political, economic, social and cultural reasons, it is now relatively commonplace and it is enough to maintain a link, at least symbolic, with an original home and a set of dispersed populations that originated from it to proclaim oneself a member of a diaspora and by ricochet to assume an identity that volens nolens brings back to the origins. On the artistic level, these conscious or unconscious links, these artistic genealogies are undeniably sources of enrichment, both symbolic and metaphorical. Whatever they do, the artists will express, as much on the level of the formal vocabulary, but also on the conceptual level, works or details which will bring us back to these links. As the British sociologist and scholar Paul Gilroy (1993) says so well, «𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴». «𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘶𝘴», says the American writer Philip Roth. WAVES ( ro. Unde sau Valuri) este o expozitie care prezintă mai multe instalații digitale interactive, spectacole performative live, proiecte de realitate augmentată și realitate virtuală. Tema acestei manifestări artistice este reprezentarea undelor, a valurilor, în tot ceea ce presupun acestea. Lumina și sunetul ca unde de vibrație, natura și matematica, mișcarea corpului și codul computerizat. Vă invităm să jucați și să experimentați câteva fragmente din lumile noastre, așa cum le vedem și încercăm să le exprimăm.
Această expoziție este creată de Klaus Obermaier, Cristina Pop-Tiron, Agata Olteanu, Gergely Mátyás, Marta Winkler, Virgil Puiac, Péter Leidl, Florin Marc și studenta Erasmus Meritxell Pascual, profesori și masteranzi la programul de masterat Arte Digitale Interactive de la Facultatea de Teatru și Film, Universitatea Babeș - Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca.
Pentru prima dată, expoziția va fi deschisă timp de două zile, 24 și 25 martie 2023, între orele 19:00-22:00. Vernisajul din 24 martie, ora 19:00 vă va întâmpina cu un spectacol live al lui Klaus Obermaier, care va avea loc doar vineri, în timp ce pe celelalte le puteți vizita în ambele zile.

WAVES is an exhibition featuring several digital interactive installations, live performances, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality projects. The theme of this artistic manifestation is the representation of waves, in all that it entails. Light and sound as waves, nature and mathematics, body movement, and computer code. We invite you to play and experience a few snippets of our worlds, as we see them and try to express them.
Brought to you by Klaus Obermaier, Cristina Pop-Tiron, Agata Olteanu, Gergely Mátyás, Marta Winkler, Virgil Puiac, Péter Leidl, Florin Marc and Erasmus student Meritxell Pascual, professors and master students from the Digital Interactive Arts masters program at the Faculty of Theater and Film, Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca.
For the first time, the exhibition will be open for two days 24th and 25th of March 2023 between the hours 19:00-22:00. The opening on the 24th of March, 19:00 will welcome you with a live performance by Klaus Obermaier, which will only take place on Friday, while the others you can experience on both days.

Arta și artiștii le dau întâlnire clujenilor la Centrul de Interes: expoziții noi și artist-talk la inaugurarea sezonului expozițional de toamnă 2022
Centrul de Interes continuă să-și consolideze poziția de pol dominant pe scena de artă vizuală contemporană națională și internațională printr-un nou sezon expozițional, care aduce la Cluj artiști și curatori din Germania, Italia, Belgia și România. Noile expoziții vor avea vernisajul comun joi, 13 octombrie, între orele 18:00 și 22:00, la Centrul de Interes de pe strada Fabricii de Chibrituri 9A, cu efortul organizațiilor colaboratoare: SPAȚIU INTACT, Friche Space, Focus și CAMERA. Line-up-ul sezonului expozițional de toamnă 2022 îi include pe artiștii Harry Hachmeister, Mirko Canesi, Linda Carrara - care expun pentru prima dată în România, Răzvan Neagoe și Irina Dumitrașcu - Măgurean. În ziua vernisajului, în curte, vizitatorii se vor putea delecta cu preparate de street food și băuturi alese oferite de partenerii Centrului de Interes. Vineri, 14 octombrie, de la ora 18:00, artistul Harry Hachmeister se va adresa publicului de la Centrul de Interes într-un artist-talk moderat de Alex Mirutziu, curatorul expoziției. Noile expoziții vor putea fi vizitate în perioada 14 octombrie - 30 noiembrie, de marți până sâmbătă, între orele 16:00 - 19:00. Intrarea e liberă!
SPAȚIU INTACT îl aduce în prim-plan publicului clujean pe artistul german Harry Hachmeister cu expoziția personală ”Everything under control”. După aproape 20 de ani de la prima lor colaborare, curatorul expoziției Alex Mirutziu facilitează accesul iubitorilor de artă contemporană la creația unui artist a cărui operă o descrie ”echivalentul unui dans pe o frânghie între două stânci”. Profitând de spațiile expoziționale generoase ale Centrului de Interes, artistul se desfășoară în trei săli, inclusiv în Sala ATRIUM, și prezintă lucrări de ceramică, instalații și pictură pe sticlă, în care atribuie melancolie animalelor din preajma figurilor umane deseori însingurate și chestionează oboseala corpului în transformare și prietenia între specii. ”Sunt inspirat de ceea ce cunosc (eu însumi), de ceea ce mă tulbură” declară artistul născut la Leipzig în 1979 și stabilit la Berlin. În ultimii ani, artistul a expus la Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig, Museum für Photographie Braunschweig și Schwules Museum din Germania, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo din Santiago de Chile și a fost bursier al Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen, HBK Braunschweig și Pollock-Krasner Foundation din New York.
La invitația Friche Space și Focus, curatorul belgian Emmanuel Lambion, cu o activitate de peste două decenii în domeniul cultural și fondator al Bn PROJECTS, a pregătit două expoziții personale ale artiștilor Mirko Canesi și Linda Carrara. ”Legătura dintre ele o constituie peisajele futuriste virtuale post umane și urme ale unor peisaje primordiale, care creionează peisaje mentale”, susține curatorul Emmanuel Lambion.
Friche Space găzduiește expoziția ”Ri’fuʤo” a artistei Linda Carrara, stabilită la Milano. Firul roșu al expoziției își are sursa în șocul estetic pe care artista l-a experimentat în momentul vizitării peșterii Grotta del Genovese, pe insula Levanzo din regiunea Siciliei. Impresionată de descoperirea intimă a unui trecut ancestral îndepărtat al umanității, artista recrează experiența la Centrul de Interes pornind chiar de la titlul expoziției care e o transcriere fonetică a cuvântului italian ”rifugio” - refugiu sau adăpost, în limba română - și care susține demersul artistic de retragere și reîntoarcere în civilizațiile pre- și protoistorice. Recent, lucrările artistei au fost incluse în expoziții organizate de Fondazione ICA și Palazzo Reale din Milano.
La Focus publicul se va familiariza cu lucrările artistului italian stabilit la Bruxelles Mirko Canesi care compun expoziția ”Save Point”. Artistul s-a inspirat pentru această expoziție din două jocuri video populare la începutul anilor ‘90, ”Shadow of the Beast” și ”Flashback”, ambele plasate în medii de junglă futuriste. Fascinația artistului pentru realitatea virtuală și cultura jocurilor video se regăsește în sculpturile din spațiul galeriei. Urmele umane sunt eradicate din peisajele încadrate recreate de Canesi, lăsând astfel privitorul să se confrunte cu simptomele unui mediu natural post-uman.
Expoziția de la spațiul CAMERA îi aduce față în față pe artiștii Răzvan Neagoe și Irina Dumitrașcu - Măgurean. Duo show-ul ”Standing Point” pune în discuție abordarea celor doi artiști față de fotografie și modul prin care aceștia o percep. Lucrările prezentate îi depărtează de bine cunoscuta depictare a naturii și îi transpun într-o lume a abstractului în care imaginația privitorului este calea spre descifrare a imaginilor. Ambii artiști lucrează cu fotografia pe film, dar fiecare o traduce în limbajul individual, publicul având de-a face cu două lumi distincte.

Centrul de Interes marchează 5 ani de existență cu un nou sezon expozițional și un concert surpriză, pe 26 mai
Centrul de Interes marchează anul acesta 5 ani de activitate, o bornă până la care a reușit să ajungă să fie un reper în lumea artistică clujeană și internațională, printr-un program ambițios care numără peste 150 de expoziții și evenimente culturale organizate la Cluj și peste hotare. În cadrul acestui context aniversar, un nou sezon expozițional va fi vernisat joi, 26 mai, între orele 17:00 - 20:00, cu cinci expoziții găzduite de spațiul expozițional generos de pe strada Fabricii de Chibrituri 9A. Line-up-ul sezonului expozițional de vară 2022 include artiști din România, Franța, Germania și Belgia: Darie Dup, Ronny Delrue, Timo Klos, Mihai Grecu și Răzvan Neagoe. La ora 19:00 va avea loc lansarea catalogului expoziției ”5$milkshake” a artistei Reka Csapo Dup, curatoriată de Adriana Pop în luna iunie a anului trecut la Combinatul Fondului Plastic din București. De la ora 20:30, în curtea Centrului de Interes, trio-ul chitaristului italian de jazz multipremiat Antonio Forcione va susține primul său concert live în România. Atmosfera de sărbătoare din ziua vernisajului va fi completată cu preparate de street food și băuturi alese. În perioada 27 mai - 9 iulie, noile expoziții vor putea fi vizitate de marți până sâmbătă, între orele 16:00 - 19:00. Intrarea e liberă!
SPAȚIUL INTACT și ATRIUM vor găzdui ”Marea paradă a ambalajelor fără suflet”, o expoziție de sculptură, obiect, mediu digital, plastic, ambalaje, suflete, semnată de artistul Darie Dup și curatorul Horea Avram. ”Aceasta e marea paradă a ambalajelor fără suflet! Cei pe care urmează să-i vedeți sunt pregătiți pentru a vă servi, cu excepția unei cantități mici din noul nostru produs, în a doua galerie. Diferite loturi sunt distribuite operatorilor din zonă și există o mulțime de oportunități pentru marele investitor”, așa ar putea suna un posibil motto pentru artist inspirat din cântecul ”The Grand Parade Of Lifeless Packaging” din 1974 al trupei Genesis.
Friche Space va prezenta expoziția ”Archive of thoughts”, care cuprinde o selecție de lucrări pe hârtie realizate de artistul belgian Ronny Delrue din 2006 până în 2021. Expoziția curatoriată de Ovidiu Leuce aduce în fața publicului clujean desenul, mediu care se află în centrul practicii artistului. Cu fiecare linie pe care o pune pe hârtie, Delrue face apel la intuiție și la anecdote preluate atât din sfera intimă cât și din starea lumii, pentru a crea lucrări care-i trădează starea mentală și emoțională. Desenele lui Delrue surprind corpul în diverse ipostaze care pot fi interpretate atât în funcție de experiențele proprii ale privitorului, cât și de peisajul psihologic la momentul intersectării cu opera.
Artistul german Timo Klos va expune la spațiul Focus - ”A little more than 5 minutes”, o instalație care însumează 330 de fotografii, curatoriată de Andrei Budescu. Această lucrare dezvoltă momentul prezentului, definitoriu atât în fotografie cât și în viața de zi cu zi. Instalația surprinde marea în momente fragmentare dintr-o perspectivă singulară la intervale precise de o secundă în 330 de imagini realizate în puțin peste 5 minute. La prima vedere motivele sunt similare, dar nu și detaliile. Fiecare captură a momentului are propria ei reprezentare vizuală.
Laureat în 2021 cu premiul pentru cel mai bun film de scurt metraj de către Syndicat Français de la Critique de Cinéma, artistul român stabilit în Franța Mihai Grecu va prezenta la spațiul Hassium proiectul ”The reflection of power”, curatoriat de Ioana Olăhuț. Lucrarea video s-a coagulat prin intermediul imaginilor monumentelor și manifestărilor emblematice din Coreea de Nord, unicele pe care un vizitator are voie să le documenteze. Lichide purificatoare imeresează această lume izolată, autocrată și absurdă, deconspirând-o drept amplă oglindă narcisiacă, epurată de orice formă de viață reală, cu locuitorii reduși la statutul de actori eterni ai punerii în scenă a unei singure personalități, pornire imperialistă care se declanșează din nou în zilele noastre.
Expoziția de la spațiul CAMERA, care include fotografii analog și instalații, conduce către o realitate a zilelor noastre. Prin ”Body Scale, looking at the camera”, parte a proiectului “Rezidență artistică de unul singur - Arta la țară”, artistul Răzvan Neagoe și curatorul expoziției Irina Dumitrașcu Măgurean urmăresc schimbările produse în societate, mai ales în timpul pandemiei, care au făcut ca ”întoarcerea la țară” să producă o adevarată ”revoluție” către evadare. Migrația către partea rurală a crescut, iar întoarcerea către această zonă va reactiva și partea valorilor uitate. Proiectul artistului nu e o întoarcere în timp, ci mai degrabă o recuperare și fructificare a ceea ce a mai rămas.

On Wednesday 21 September, starting 6 p.m., in the Auditorium Hall of the National Art Museum of Romania (MNAR), we are pleased to invite you to a meeting with French artist ORLAN. The event is occasioned by the launch of the book LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN (THE FILMS OF SAINT-ORLAN), edited by the Intact Cultural Foundation in Cluj-Napoca.
With a world-renowned career in the field of corporeal art, ORLAN opened at Centrul de Interes Cluj-Napoca, in 2021, the exhibition LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN. The project was signed by SPAȚIU INTACT.
The artist’s creations inspired by the world of cinema, exhibited on this occasion, will be presented by the artist herself, together with Florin Ștefan - director of the Intact Cultural Foundation, initiator and creative producer of this project, as well as the coordinator of the volume, Horea Avram - curator of the Cluj exhibition and coordinator of the volume, and the other authors who contributed to its materialization: Bogdan Ghiu - writer, Laura Ilea - writer and Raluca Oancea - art historian and curator.
Guests: Her Excellency Mrs. Laurence Auer, Ambassador of the French Republic in Bucharest; Ovidiu Cîmpean, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Investments and European Projects; Julien Chiaponne-Lucchesi, director of the French Institute in Romania.
The event will be hosted by Călin Stegerean, the general director of MNAR.
LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN was published with the support of the Cluj-Napoca City Hall, Banca Transilvania, Weberbau, Distral and the French Institute in Romania, and will be available on this occasion.

Klaus Obermaier revine la Centrul de Interes: instalații artistice și spectacole digitale interactive produse în colaborare cu studenții clujeni
Centrul de Interes prezintă un eveniment cultural devenit tradiție care aduce în prim plan rezultatele colaborării dintre artistul austriac Klaus Obermaier și studenți ai masterului Digital Interactive Arts din cadrul Facultății de Teatru și Film, Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai din Cluj-Napoca.
Expoziția ”INTERACTIVUM” poate fi vizitată doar în data de 15 aprilie, începând cu ora 20:00, în spațiul expozițional al Centrului de Interes - strada Fabricii de Chibrituri 9A. Intrarea e liberă!
”INTERACTIVUM” este o expoziție care cuprinde mai multe instalații și spectacole digitale interactive. Tema acestei manifestări artistice este interacțiunea, în toate aspectele ei. Expoziția este concepută astfel încât să ofere publicului oportunitatea de a reflecta asupra a ceea ce înseamnă ”interacțiunea” și cum ne afectează ea percepția. Artiștii din line-up-ul expoziției își propun să ridice întrebări fundamentale care stau la baza vieții de zi cu zi, cum ar fi: ”Ce înseamnă să fii om?”, ”În ce fel sunt conectate simțurile?”, ”Care este limita dintre om și mașină?”.
Evenimentul îi aduce la Centrul de Interes pe artistul austriac Klaus Obermaier și pe Cristina Pop-Tiron, Bogdan Dumitraș, Toma Bărbulescu, Iustin Filip, Lucia Codreanu, Jura Ruža și Florin Marc de la programul de masterat Digital Interactive Arts de la Facultatea de Teatru și Film, Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai.

In both days, access to the exhibition will be restricted or limited depending on the regulations in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN is an exhibition-event that proposes a close-up (!) view of the film as image, of the film as idea, and video as possibility in the way they are instrumentalized by one of the most important contemporary French artists. ORLAN works with the self-image, with the image itself proposing plausible but absent narratives, auto-hagiographic fictions tailored in a cinematic manner. For ORLAN, film is a possibility explored in all its dimensions: as a medium and as an artistic expression, as an image that cannot be reduced to its mediality, as an (unresolved) problem of representation, but also as a potential instrument of manipulation, as a narrative fiction and body fictionalization.
The exhibition LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN includes video works produced in the last 30+ years, film posters featuring real but absent famous characters, posters of films that actually doesn’t exist, soundtrack of films that will never be made and a series of “hybrid” portraits of the artist, some of them extended in Augmented Reality. A call for film scripts, open to the public, will seek to bring together scenarios (included later in the exhibition catalog) that will go the other way, from the poster to the idea. ORLAN will be present in Cluj, where it will participate in a round-table in the exhibition space.

Elekes, Dumitru Fanfarov and Catinca Mălaimare. One of the most significant private art collections in Hungary, on view at Centrul de Interes

”Monochrome Stories. The Antal-Lusztig Collection. Debrecen” presented a selection of works from the biggest private art collection in Hungary: The Antal-Lusztig Collection of Debrecen. The exhibition brings in Cluj works from 40 international and Hungarian artists.
The collection that consists almost 5.000 items was established in the 1920s by Sámuel Lusztig who began purchasing contemporary works of art of his age. Unfortunately, the works purchased in those years were lost during World War II. After the Holocaust, Lusztig began rebuilding the collection, a process in which his nephew, Péter Antal, later became involved. In the beginning Péter Antal had carried on collecting in the spirit of his grandfather, but at the age of 17 he went his own way and mainly sought for the representatives of the Hungarian progressive art. He mainly purchased the contemporary works of art from the artist’s studios. The development of the 20th century Hungarian visual art can be traced in the imposing Antal‒Lusztig Collection. Recently, considering that his collection fully covers Hungarian art, Antal is increasingly turning its attention to the acquisition of works signed by internationally renowned artists. Currently, the collection has almost 5.000 works, being the largest private art collection in Hungary. As a sign of respect and gratitude to his grandfather, Antal named the collection "Antal-Lusztig Collection".
The exhibition “Monochrome Stories. The Antal-Lusztig Collection. Debrecen” from Centrul de Interes includes monochrome works. "Even if it seems to be just a simple color, it's more than that. Now the monochrome works give the character of my international collection", points out Peter Antal.

The Kolonie Wedding is on the one hand a prime example for Berlin’s lively landscape of project spaces, and on the other it is unique in Berlin and might even be unique worldwide. Kolonie Wedding has had since its founding in 2001 a strong international angle – members come from all over the world and have organized a variety of international exchange exhibitions with East Europe, South America and, for example, New York. At the same time, the project spaces have a regional focus and regularly organize events, concerts, performances and exhibitions with a participatory character, inviting their neighborhoods to take part. Further, Kolonie Wedding is special in so far as membership and (international) exhibition activities are of an exceptional continuity.
In 2001 a group of project spaces connected and founded the non profit organization “Kolonie Wedding” in Berlin-Wedding, one district in Berlin. After 15 years the Kolonie consists of 23 project spaces in the area around Soldiner Straße. The associated project spaces coordinate their openings: on every last Friday of each month those of the spaces which show new exhibitions open their doors simultaneously – usually about ten of the project rooms, and there are guided tours to all the spaces for the interested public. Many of the projects focus on specific topics or genres, like for example video art, performance; connections between art and the sciences, politics. Some of the spaces cultivate regular international art exchanges with the Balkan states, Russia, Austria, Turkey, Brazil or Finland. Maybe the “Kolonie” itself could, with an extended conception of art, be seen as a Gesamtkunstwerk – one that can cross or even dissolve borders and that is a fertile ground for innovative ideas.

The "Young European Creation" exhibition, a project that brings together artists from seven different countries and a total of 56 artworks, opened at Centrul de Interes and can be visited until 25 November, Tue-Sat between 4-7:30pm.
Curated by the painter Florin Stefan, the Romanian project includes a series of works by Anticamera, Roxana Ajder, Baraka, Andrei Ciurdărescu, Sungjae Revo Kim, Mihaela Mihalache, Sarah Muscalu and Mihai Zgondoiu.
After Montrouge (France), Hjorring (Denmark), Cesis (Latvia) and - now - Cluj-Napoca, the exhibition will travel to Como (Italy), Figueres (Spain) and Amarante (Portugal). In Cluj, the project is made possible by a partnership between Fundația Culturală Intact, Montrouge City Hall and Cluj-Napoca City Hall.

Following the 2019 first Performance Day we move on this year with a series of four performances, to be presented publically on Friday, September 4, from 8pm, at Centrul de Interes in Cluj, ATRIUM Hall on the 4th floor. This year's edition is prepared by the artist Alex Mirutziu, and the line-up includes fresh approaches by a new wave of Romanian artists: Sibi-Bogdan Teodorescu, Virginia Lupu, Ana Tecar and Denisse Moise.
8pm, ATRIUM Hall | “LUNA” by Sibi-Bogdan TeodorescuThis improvisation deals with the confrontation of image and (rhetoric) interpretation, as the irreconcilable binomial things-meanings. By repetition and reversement “LUNA” plays with illusion and more than that, with doubt about ideas: are facts the basis of ideas or these last ones generate the facts?
”LUNA” could be regarded as an exploration of what triggers inspiration in general and was built upon occurrences between space, music and artistic elements (set, apparel). Each time this performance changes its framework, new adjustments reveal other facets of this pursuit.
8:30pm, ATRIUM Hall | ”Molibdomanție” by Virginia LupuThe performance takes on a traumatic episode from the artist's childhood and intersects it with a hot tin metal ritual used to eliminate fear or trauma. The artist transforms the exhibition space into a place where all those present can potentially escape their fears via such ancient ritual.

But how much of what you see is defined by society, education, political system, power wars or personal mishaps? How much does labeling help our emotional comforts and how much does it limit the one we put labels on?

10:20pm, ATRIUM Hall | “One being-with another.The usages of intimacy in one-to-one performance” by Ana TecarThe relational experiments of one-to-one performance make the promise of offering a psycho-emotional in-depth encounter, understood as unique and ephemeral. Having as the starting point an embodied dialogue, they assure a transformation of the identities of the performer and the participant – based on the process of (self)disclosure and on a coexistence in the ''performative now''.
What is the expectancy of these performances? The ethical ideal of authenticity and of an ''(a)live'' presence. Starting from the practice of artists such as Adrian Howells, with his work Foot-Washing for the Sole and Tehching Hsieh-Linda Montano with their work Rope Piece, I propuse a discussion on the relational tensions that emerge between the performer and the participant. Do these affective spaces accomplish their promise of a reciprocal exchange of positive emotions– determined by the ethical and dramaturgical principles of authenticity and presence?

The exhibition is structured around the enigmatic concluding phrase from Voltaire's "Candide, or Optimism" (1759). After the hero of the novel travels "in the best of all possible worlds", but encounters an endless series of disasters, wars and other human madness, he ends up recommending the care of "our garden" as an antidote to ideological doctrines and as a recipe for a fulfilling life: “it is well said, answered Candide, but we must cultivate our garden.” The title of the exhibition is a response to the crisis of our time given by the artistic community which works at Centrul de Interes and not only.

The exhibiton titled ”Changing Places II.”
The contemporary art collection ICA - Dunaujvaros
“Changing Places II. Works from the Institute of Contemporary Art - Dunaujvaros Collection”, the consequent follow up of (I) the show which was part of an international cultural exchange program, was a joined effort between Centrul de Interes, Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Dunaujvaaros (Hungary).
The first show "Changing Places - Works by Artists of Centrul de Interes" was focused on the artists based at Centrul de Interes and took place at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Dunauujvaros in the spring of 2019. The show offered a homogenous perspective on the a large number of artists from the Cluj art centre.
The exhibition "Changing Places II", curated by Nora Deak and Gabriella Zsinka was presented in the generous space on the 4th floor of Centrul de Interes and offered a panoramic view of the contemporary art scene in Hungary, showing a selection of 42 artists Internationally renowned Hungarians: Adam Zoltan, Bajusz Orsolya, Betuker Istvan, Birkas Istvan, Bogyo Virag, Borocz Andras, Braun Andras, Bruckner Janos, Csakany Istvan, Csaky Marianne, Csorgo Attila, Eperjesi Agnes, Esterhazy Marcell, Feher Marta, Friedrich Ferenc, Gemes Peter, Gerber Pal, Gerhes Gabor, Grof Ferenc, Horvath Tibor, Kaszas Tamas, Kiss Roka Csaba, Kis Varso, Komoroczky Tamas, Koronczi Endre, Kovach Gergo, Kupcsik Adrian, Lakner Antal, Lendeczki Kinga, Nagy Kriszta, Nemes Csaba, Olah Matyas Laszlo, Patakfalvi-Czirjak Agnes, Société Réaliste, St Auby Tamas, Szabo Adam, Szacsva y Pal, Szalay Peter, Szucs Attila, Tarr Hajnalka, Varnai Gyula and Varnagy Tibor.
Founded in 1997, ICA-D is one of the most important exhibition spaces outside the Hungarian capital. The collection of ICA-D has a history of over 20 years, featuring more than 350 works of art, being one of the most significant collections in Hungary. Its potential is also evident in the growing number of loan applications from prestigious art institutions from Portugal to Japan. The selection of works presented at Centrul de Interes provided a comprehensive outlook of the history and formation of its unique collection and reflected on the diversity of the collection rich in subjects, styles and environments (painting, sculpture, object, installation, photography and video).

Jeune Création Européenne Biennale (JCE)
The JCE Biennale is above all a network linking different European cities concerned with promoting the work of their country’s young artists as well as allowing these artists’ cultural actions to be known beyond their borders. Each country is represented by a curator whose responsibility it is to select eight young artists who will participate in the JCE Biennale by presenting one of their artworks. Once the artworks of each country have been assembled, the JCE Biennale takes the shape of a large traveling collective exhibit which settles down in each of the partner cities over the course of two consecutive years. Through implementing this network, the JCE successfully manages to assemble emerging art scenes in the European Union, which share similar values and cultural objectives. Thus it represents a privileged moment of encounters and exchange between artists and professionals across Europe. At the heart of these shared esthetics, perceptions, and creative processes, the JCE Biennale wishes to open a terrain conducive to the questioning and new experiences necessary in order to stimulate youth creation. It is this collaborative nature which imposes itself as the guarantor of the free circulation of ideas and artistic research both on the national and international scale.
